DA: 16-Year-Old Student Attacked Teacher At School Pep Rally In Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A 16-year-old junior has been suspended from school for 10 days and is on house arrest on charges she assaulted a teacher and pushed the woman down some bleacher steps during a Pennsylvania high school pep rally.

The Lehigh County district attorney's office announced the charges stemming from the Nov. 6 incident at Louis E. Dieruff High School in Allentown.

The pep rally was being held before the school's football game with cross-town rival Allen High School.

The 51-year-old teacher tried to take the student's identification after falling about two-thirds of the way down the bleachers, but the girl resisted.

She faces a juvenile court adjudication hearing on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment on Tuesday.

The girl had been in a juvenile shelter before a judge granted her house arrest on Monday.
