Customs Officials Seize Dangerous Drug At Philadelphia UPS Facility

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Customs officials in Philadelphia say they've seized 42 grams of a dangerous designer drug.

The seizure was made on Monday at the UPS express consignment facility near Philadelphia International Airport.

Officials say the drug discovered is known as MXE. It's described as a synthetic compound derivative of the drug ketamine, which is used in human and veterinarian medicine.

The narcotics were apparently found during a routine examination of a padded envelope from Spain that was labeled as sports supplements. The MXE was destined for an address in Minneapolis.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized the narcotics. No arrests have been made.

In December, customs agents at the mail facility made two seizures of illegal khat. One of those shipments was also destined for Minnesota.
