Crews Beat Deck Fire At Ex-Senator Fumo's Philadelphia Home

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Firefighters have snuffed a small blaze on a roof deck at former state Senator Vincent Fumo's mansion in Philadelphia.

Fumo and his fiancee' could be seen watching as crews responded about 8 p.m. Saturday, but they declined comment.

Fumo, who represented his Philadelphia district in the Senate for three decades, was convicted in 2009 of all counts in a sweeping federal indictment that charged him with defrauding the Senate and two nonprofit organizations of more than $4 million.

After serving time in federal prison, Fumo finished his sentence by serving six months confined to the mansion where the deck caught fire. That sentence ended in early February.

Emergency officials say the fire didn't damage the four-story mansion itself. Nobody was hurt.
