Fire Destroys Business In Maple Shade, New Jersey

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (CBS) — A business was destroyed and the owner was hospitalized after flames ripped through a lawn mowing store in Burlington County, New Jersey.

The fire broke out around 4:00 a.m. Saturday inside South Jersey Mowers along the 600 block of Stiles Avenue, near the intersection of Route 73 in Maple Shade.

Officials say the owner, who lived above the business, was awakened by the fire and overcome by smoke as she escaped the flames.

She was taken to Kennedy University Hospital in Cherry Hill where she was treated for minor burns to her throat and smoke inhalation. She was listed in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire caused part of the building to collapse and the business could not be saved. Heavy machinery was used to tear down the rest of it.
