By Steve Beck

EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- A driver had to be extricated from their vehicle and rushed to the hospital after a single-car crash that brought down wires and shut down a major roadway in Chester County Monday.

The crash happened at about 9 a.m. along West Chester Pike near Westtown Way in East Goshen Township.

Chopper 3 HD was over the scene where it appeared a single-car somehow lost control, left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Emergency crews at the scene feverishly worked to free the car by removing the roof of the car. The driver was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition.

PECO workers were also at the scene because live wires from the downed utility pole were on the car.

As a result of the crash, West Chester Pike was shut down in both directions.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
