Crash Kills Woman Walking On Sidewalk In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a car was out of control when it struck and killed a woman on the sidewalk and injured three others overnight in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday along North Broad Street near Allegheny Avenue.

Police say the car was traveling northbound on Allegheny when the driver lost control, crossed over to the southbound lanes, jumped the curb and struck a 50-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk, and then slammed into the PNC Bank.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, and two male passengers, 25 and 24, were taken to Temple University Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Accident investigators were on the scene trying to determine the cause of the crash.
