Pa. Supreme Court Rejects Kane Bid To Restore Law License; Senate Expected To Vote On Removal

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- The state Supreme Court has rejected Attorney General Kathleen Kane's bid to lift the suspension of her law license. The question now is when the Senate might vote on removing Kane from office.

A special state Senate committee created to study whether Kathleen Kane can do her job as attorney general with a suspended law license recommended that the Senate wait to take any action until the state Supreme Court ruled, but the committee's majority Republicans recommended that the Senate should vote on possibly removing Kane once the high court's intentions were clear.

The Supreme Court's makeup has changed since Kane's law license was suspended last fall, but the court Friday upheld her license suspension, saying that Kane failed in a timely fashion to argue that Justice Michael Eakin, now suspended due to his involvement in an email controversy, should have not participated in the decision regarding her license.

The top state Senator says he will now consult with other Senate leaders about a date to take a vote on removing Kane from office.
