Corbett To Tap Green To Head SRC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia School Reform Commission should soon be back to full strength. KYW Newsradio has learned that Governor Corbett is expected to fill two open seats on the panel as early as today.
A source close to the School Reform Commission tells KYW Newsradio that Corbett has tapped Philadelphia city councilman Bill Green to head the SRC. Green would fill the position left by former chair Pedro Ramos, who resigned in October.
The source also says the governor will name Farah Jimenez, head of the People's Emergency Center, to the seat being vacated by commissioner Joe Dworetzky, whose term ends this month.
That would bring the SRC back to its full complement of five members.
Gov. Corbett is scheduled to make a Friday morning visit to Philadelphia's Central High School, his first visit to a district-run school.
Green, who is believed to be a potential candidate for mayor next year, would have to resign his City Council seat to run the SRC.
The nominations of Green and Jimenez would need state senate approval.
