Corbett Says Pa. National Guard Should Be Protected From Downsizing

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Governor Corbett has joined all 49 other governors in sending a letter to President Obama opposing cuts to the Army National Guard.
Flanked by members of the Pennsylvania National Guard at a veterans-related event, Governor Corbett -– himself a former Guard member -- argued that the Guard should be spared from downsizing of the military because, he says, its members represent a greater return on investment.

Today, Corbett said the regular military has a much greater turnover, making the longevity and experience of members of the Guard and Reserve invaluable.
"The men and women behind me train all the time," the governor said. "They're training with something they have learned many years ago, but they continue to train."
The governor's remarks came at a news conference announcing that Pennsylvania veterans may now apply for a new veterans' designation that will appear on the front of driver's licenses and state-issued ID cards.
