Corbett Proposes Increase In Funding For PA Crisis Programs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Governor Corbett will propose another boost in funding for domestic violence and rape crisis programs in Pennsylvania.
In what amounted to a small snippet preview of next month's budget proposal, Corbett this past week said he'll propose ten-percent additional funding, or $2.2 million more, for domestic violence and rape crisis programs.
Peg Dierkers, director of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, says the extra funds would allow for more services to be offered and more victims to be helped:
"I will also recommend to our board that we establish one or two additional legal assistance sites to provide civil legal representation to victims who are often in family court on divorce and custody proceedings as they try to free themselves and their children from the violence in their home."
Dierkers says the coalition wants to add twelve additional legal assistance sites over the next three years.
