Cops: Autistic Teen Punched During Large Brawl Outside Church In Delaware

HARRINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- A 14-year-old was arrested in Delaware after investigators say he punched a teen with autism during a large brawl.

The incident happened on Friday outside the Calvary Wesleyan Church located in the 200 Block of Delaware Avenue in Harrington.

According to investigators, while on routine foot patrol, officers with the Harrington Police Department observed a large brawl break out and they called for back-up.

When additional officers arrived, they were able to break-up and clear out the large crowd.

After the fight was over and the crowd was cleared out, officers learned that a 13-year-old with autism was struck in the face by a 14-year-old during the brawl.

The victim suffered a swollen cheek and other minor facial injuries.

Officers obtained a description of the suspect and they located him walking away from the church and took him into custody.

The 14-year-old was taken to the Harrington Police Department for processing. He was charged with one count of Assault Third Degree. He was then turned over to the custody of his parent pending a future court appearance.
