Police ID Man Struck And Killed By Tractor In Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Delaware Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a tractor at the Cherry Hill Island Landfill Friday afternoon.

Authorities say a 52-year-old worker was operating a Caterpillar D6R LGP Crawler Tractor within the landfill. As he was pushing trash into a large pile and backing up, he struck his co-worker, Jose Luis Garcia-Hernandez, who was standing behind the machinery.

Garcia-Hernandez, 42, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating. OSHA has been notified and will also be conducting an investigation.
