Construction About To Begin On $11-Million Delaware Avenue Extension

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Work is about to begin on extending Delaware Avenue north of the Tioga Marine Terminal. It's expected to have several benefits.
The $11-million extension will stretch Delaware Avenue from Lewis Street, just south of the Betsy Ross Bridge to Orthodox Street.
"Not just for relieving congestion of truck traffic and relieving congestion of cars in our neighborghoods but it adds as a connection to our most precious resource, our Philadelphia waterfront," Councilman Bobby Henon said.
Along with a 30 foot wide roadway and a new bridge over Frankford Creek, there will be lighting, landscaping and both a sidewalk and another section of an ambitious trail.
"The road and the accompanying trail will provide a vital link in the City's larger bicycle and walking path network," Mayor Nutter said.
Which needs to grow more to match the dream of stretching it all the way to the Bucks County line.
