Conservative Philadelphia Political Group Drops 'Tea Party' From Name

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local Tea Party group is changing its name to change its political message.

The Independence Hall Tea Party Association has changed its name to the Independence Hall Foundation.

"We want to make it a broader focus," says president Teri Adams.  "We want to get into some other issues that we weren't really able to get into under the Tea Party banner.  At least we felt that way."

Adams makes it clear her organization is a movement, not a just political party:

"And the people in our group always thought that, just like the original movement, it would not be something that was permanent."

She says this name change only affects this one local Philadelphia group of several thousand members.

"Other Tea Party groups may feel differently. They may continue on (with the Tea Party name), but we felt that it was time to make this change," she said.
