Connor Barwin Defends Cary Williams On 94WIP

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Ever since he arrived in Philly in March of 2013, Eagles corner Cary Williams has been creating story-lines with his mouth. From sconces, to ridiculing the Patriots for being Cheaters, to his latest comments criticizing Chip Kelly's strict practice regimen directly following an Eagles win, Williams has quickly become a polarizing sports figure in this town.

His play on the field hasn't helped, has Williams has been far below average as a corner this season. In four games, Williams has recorded only one "pass defended", and has been beat numerous times.

"I think we got Cary's back, man," Connor Barwin told Michael Barkann and Ike Reese Monday on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show. "I mean, he's our starting corner. We'll have to look at the film and see all what happened, but like I said, anything that happens to Cary is involved with us up-front. Anything he does is involved with us, good and bad, so we're all connected and we'll have to look at the tape and see what we could to do to help each other out and all of us be better."

The Eagles defense as a whole had their best 2014 performance on Sunday against the 49ers, recording four sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown by Malcolm Jenkins, in a losing effort. Barwin was particularly impressive recording seven tackles, one for a loss, a sack, and two quarterback hits.

"I've been saying this the past couple weeks that I feel good about our front four and our front seven getting after the passer," Barwin said. "And I know people were questioning that the last two weeks, but it's hard to get to the quarterback when you're losing by two scores. And this week we were in the game, we had a lead, and they had to throw the ball. When we get teams in that situation and hopefully we get leads, we'll really be able to get after the quarterback."
