Connection Between Law And Everyday Life The Focus In Philadelphia This Week

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Community College of Philadelphia kicks off its 15th annual Law and Society Week Monday.

During this event, experts will tackle legal issues spanning from cyber security to the death penalty.

"The law does not exist in isolation, everything is connected," says Kathy Smith, director of Fox Rothschild Center for Law and Society at the Community College of Philadelphia.

She launched Law and Society Week with her husband, David Freeman, to show students and the general public how law relates to technology, what they eat and more. So Law Week brings in the experts for two dozen panel discussions, workshops, lectures and more.

"Monday we have Governor Ed Rendell -- he'll talk to the audience and he'll be answering questions and talking about his new book," Smith explains. "Tuesday morning we have the chief justice of the third circuit Judge McKee coming and later that day we have reporters from around the area talking about reporting on crime and justice."

Law and Society Week is free and runs through Feb 27th.
