Computer Vision Syndrome May Tire Your Eyes

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This is a frightening statistic: the average US adult spends 8 and a half hours a day staring at screens.

For an increasing number of Americans, this convenience comes at a cost - something called computer vision syndrome. What we are talking about is eye discomfort and visual problems leading to tired, sore, and dry eyes. This can help lead to headaches and blurry vision.

According to a recent study, as many as three-fourths of computer workers report eye and vision discomfort. Some of the problems include smaller type, lower contrast, and bright backlighting of electronic media.

Some tips: blink more often, get up and walk around periodically through the day and choose your screen wisely.

Use an antiglare display when possible. Keep it clean and free of dust.
