Commuter Rail Stop At AC Airport Under Consideration In NJ Legislature

Turns out, the Philadelphia to Atlantic City service runs right through the AC airport property. Proponents see adding the station as a way to boost business at the airport and in the resort town.

The idea passed in the Assembly Transportation Committee this week.

Gloucester County Democrat Paul Moriarty supports the concept. "Basically, we're not talking about laying new rails and major infrastructure," he said. "It's just putting something in place that really should have already been there."

This is an early step in a long process. They're not even sure just how much the project would cost. And there's the question of where the money might come from, given the current depleted condition of the state Transportation Trust Fund.

It's a question North Jersey Republican Betty Ann DeCroce wants answered at some point.

"The cost, my understanding from what I see, is going to come out of the TTF," she said. "And being that the TTF is not in place yet, hopefully this bill would not be put up before it is."

DeCroce voted in favor of the measure.
