Commissioner Ross Discusses Plans For Scheduled City Protests

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Violence on the streets of Dallas hits close to home for Philadelphia Commissioner Richard Ross.

Commissioner Ross arrived at work with a heavy heart, and no time to dwell. There's another protest scheduled for this evening in Philadelphia and Ross wants to make sure everything goes smoothly.

"We'll do what we have to do to keep protesters safe, but most importantly, to keep everybody in this city safe. That's what our obligation is, and we have an obligation to the men and women who wear this uniform as well, to keep them as safe as possible."

Part of the plan for at least the next few days is to put two officers in each patrol car instead of one and send out reminders to be vigilant. Beyond that, Ross wouldn't elaborate on the other precautions the department is taking.
