Collectors Will Soon Flock To 'Pezylvania' For Annual PEZ Event

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania is set to become 'Pezylvania' later this month for an annual event centered on the throwback candy.

Avid collectors or anyone who has a soft spot for nostalgia are invited to the 7th annual PEZylvania PEZ Gathering on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Renninger's Antiques & Farmer's Market in Kutztown.

Organizers say visitors will be able to see more PEZ in one area than most see in their lifetime, with vendors selling some dispensers for as little as a quarter, with the more rare ones going for thousands.

In addition, there will be raffles, a silent auction and activities that help benefit the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. And since the event takes place just one week before Halloween, kids who come in costume will get a special goodie bag while adults who dress up will be entered to win a prize vintage PEZ.

Plus, anyone who donates an item from the Berks County Animal Rescue League's wishlist will be able to score a free PEZ.

This year's event is being held in memory of its founder, Ralph Riovo who started the gathering back in 2007. Each year PEZylvania gets a new logo but organizers make sure to incorporate a purple cow PEZ into the design to remember the late Riovo who once owned a store called The Purple Cow.
