Cold Wreaks Havoc On Mass Transit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As a polar vortex blankets the Delaware Valley in a deep freeze, record low temperatures are having a major effect on transportation, this morning.
SEPTA warns that all lines are running with delays due to weather conditions. There is no service on the Trenton Regional Rail Line due to downed Amtrak wires. Service is suspended between Thorndale and Malvern on the Paoli/Thorndale Regional Rail line, also due to Amtrak wire problems. As of 10:30 a.m., power was restored to the Route 101 and 102 trolleys.
There was no major impact at Philadelphia International Airport early on, but airport officials advise travelers to check with their individual airlines for the status of their flight. Departing flights could be impacted because of problems at other airports.
Amtrak is running fewer trains than normal, because they expect fewer passengers. In addition, overhead wire problems are currently being addressed near Trenton, New Jersey. That's causing extensive delays on Northeast Corridor travel between New York City and Washington, DC (See related story).
