Coast Guard Rescues Jet Skier In New Jersey

By Marcy Norton

MANASQUAN, N.J. (CBS) - A coast guard helicopter crew was in the right place at the right time Sunday, and pulled off the rescue of a struggling jet skier.

The crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was flying a training mission over Manasquan Inlet, when they noticed a jet ski in the water, with no one on board.

As the copter circled back near Point Pleasant Beach to take another look, the jet ski slammed into the rocks near the jetty, then the crew noticed a man in the water, also being pushed toward the rocks.

The helicopter quickly got into position and lowered a rescue swimmer, who was able to reach the man in rough surf. The crew then used a hoist cable to lift the man to safety and bring him to a nearby beach.
