Coast Guard Aids 3 Stranded Boaters In Cape May

CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) — The Coast Guard came to the aid of three people who were stranded when their boat became grounded off the southern New Jersey coast and started taking on water.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Officials say another boater contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The person said the 35-foot boat was grounded on a shoal in Delaware Bay and its hull was damaged.

A 45-foot response boat-medium crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City and three local fire rescue crews responded to the area to assist the boaters.

Due to the shallow water, the helicopter crew hoisted up all three people and took them to the Cape May Airport.
