Civil Rights Activist Speaks About Dr. King, Next Generation Of Leadership During Phila. Visit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Andrew Young, a former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and one of Dr. Martin Luther King's closest confidants at the time of his assassination, spoke Wednesday at Thomas Jefferson University in honor of Dr. King.
Ambassador Andrew Young sat on stage before a packed audience for an intimate conversation with Jefferson University President Dr. Stephen Klasko, discussing everything from raising the next generation of leaders:
"We all made a mistake, myself included, into letting our children grow up to think they are free," said Young.
To tearing down the walls of racism.
"White supremacy is a sickness and you don't get angry with sick people."
When asked who he would like to see play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the big screen, he responded Eddie Murphy.
"Probably not what you would have expected," said Klasko.
"No but it's because in private he was a clown! He like to pick on people, he liked to imitate you. He was always imitating other preachers. He made us laugh at our own deaths. He would say -- you're going to die, it's the ultimate democracy. He would say you only have a choice over what you die for," said Young.
