City Sanitation Truck Gets Stuck In Large Sinkhole In West Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A sanitation truck became trapped in a deep sinkhole around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The incident occurred on the 1300 block of N. Wanamaker Road in West Philadelphia.

Fire crews indicate a pipe burst turning a pothole into a large sinkhole.

The truck was on a route when it got stuck. The sinkhole reached the top of the truck's bumper.

Chief Eric Tingle of the Philadelphia Fire Department says, "It does appear to be a small water main break."

The six inch water main break left 60 properties without water and gas. It is believed the truck falling into the pothole caused the water main break.

One resident comments, "It looks like a cave! I've never seen anything like that in my life. It's absurd."

The incident remains under investigation.
