City Officials Warn Don't Bring Too Much Stuff To Fourth Of July Events

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you're heading out to any of the signature July 4th events, especially the Party on the Parkway, don't overdue it with the things you lug along with you.
City Representative Desiree Peterkin-Bell expects upwards of 700,000 to be entertained by Roots and the other performers, but ease up on those big coolers or oversized backpacks.
"Those things will be subject to check.'
Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Everett Gillison urges folks to pack their common sense.
"Please bring clear bags, so we could just look at it without having to stop you and see what's going on."
Gillison says past history, like the Boston Marathon attacks, have taught us that certain household items can be converted into improvised explosive devices.
"If it's something that looks like you could actually put a pressure cooker in, you will be subject to search."
Gillison says, "If you see something, say something," and reach out to someone that you will see in uniform, close by.
