City Council President Hands Out Holiday Turkeys To Needy Families

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- City Council President Darrell Clarke talked about support for students inside and outside of the classroom as he handed out holiday turkeys on Tuesday afternoon.

"I hope everybody has a wonderful holiday season," he said.

The turkeys were distributed to needy families at the Spring Garden School, where Clarke also talked about the need to fund so-called wraparound services for kids.

"To make sure when that child comes to school he has a full stomach, or she has a full stomach. Not being hungry, or if there's some issues with respect to the household, that that is not part of the learning experience so that that child can be focused in the classroom."

And as for when Clarke might reveal whether he's running for mayor, he said, "I'm not sure. It'll be relatively soon."
