Phila. City Council Hears Arguments Of Temple Stadium Opposers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia city council president Darrell Clarke restated his opposition to Temple University's on-campus stadium proposal, after meeting with neighbors before Thursday's council session.
Darrell Clarke is the district councilman for Temple's neighborhood, and Mayor Kenney has said he'll defer to Clarke on the matter, so stadium opponents such as Jacqueline Wiggins of Stadium Stompers want to make sure he knows their position.... and they know his:
"That's why I'm asking for the meetings," she says, "and for the sustained clarification of his position."
Wiggins fears Clarke can be won over, but Clarke says stadium supporters, including Temple, are barely trying:
"I have not gotten -- at best -- more than a handful of people, and I mean literally a handful, i.e. five people, expressing an interest in seeing a stadium built in that community."
A Temple spokesman says the University continues to meet with neighbors to gather information about how to meet their concerns.
