City Commissioner Says Philadelphia Had A Relatively Smooth Election Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Election days are known for having some glitches and problems and this time around at the voting polls the machines started operating at the crack of dawn, and didn't stop until hours after the sun went down.
In a city with more than 1,500 polling locations making sure everything runs smoothly is a pretty tough job.
"We have more than 3,000 machines city wide opperating at any given time."
City Commissioner Al Schmidt says with large gubanatorial and presidental elections they expected more polling place problems than what they had.
"We saw a pretty smooth election overall given the magnitude of a city this size."
Voters at 10th and Girard had to work around a broken machine all day, but Schmidt says it did not affect their ability to allow people to cast their vote because there were more machines.
