Circus Makes STEM Subjects Fun For Kids

By Dr. Marciene Mattleman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Brent Bushnell and Eric Gradman want to make science, technology, engineering and math - STEM, fun. They created Two Bit Circus in Los Angeles using lasers fire and robots and organized a STEAM carnival (STEM with A for Art in the middle) luring kids through interactive projects with contests and prizes. Student participants have the opportunity to display projects through exhibitions including a wearable electronics fashion show.

Incentives included kits that are distributed to at-risk L.A. students to build projects, such as musical instruments, to be unveiled before a live audience at STEAM Carnival's stage show next summer in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

There's a backlog of teachers and parents requesting the kits and subsequent participation in STEAM Carnival...which will be a kind of science fair–meets–circus act for kids and an internship program for kids.

Visit Two Bit Circus to learn about the inventive way to turn kids on to science - a national imperative.
