Churches Across Philadelphia Packed For Christmas Eve Services

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Many folks spend Christmas Eve in church, including in Philadelphia.

One congregant of Tenth Presbyterian says singing the Christmas hymns brings people together:

"You know, no matter how horrible -- I know my singing voice is horrible -- but even when I'm in there with that group of people and we're all singing to praise Jesus, you know, it's the most beautiful sound in the world."

And other church-goers tell KYW Newsradio there's nothing like the atmosphere of a packed church on Christmas Eve:

"It's a great opportunity we're so excited that we have the freedom to that here in this country and we don't have to worry about any repercussions."

"It's like stepping into heaven on Earth, really. Like, you just hear everybody's voices together and it's like you're joining with the angels. Like, you can't imagine not being in heaven at that point in time."

This woman says it was the perfect end to a hectic day:

"After the chaotic day of going to work and then having to get the kids ready and get them here, coming to church and hearing the music and just being here there's a sense of calm."

But she says with the end of services, the festivities are just beginning.
