Christie On Trump: 'I Think He's Going To Win'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After the Bridgegate verdict that saw two of his former allies convicted on federal conspiracy charges, Chris Christie spent the final weekend of Campaign 2016 on the sidelines. But New Jersey's governor is still heading Donald Trump's transition team. It's a role Christie expects to begin in earnest... on Wednesday.

"I think he's going to win."

Christie says Trump has 'momentum' on his side in these waning hours.

"I think the country desperately wants a change."

But does HE want a new job -- say Attorney General, in a Trump administration?

"I don't necessarily want to be anything, except helpful to him."

About those traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge.

"I wish I knew. I never could figure it out. It was one of the most abjectly stupid things I've ever seen."

Christie tells 'CBS This Morning' he was not told the lane closures were political payback for a non-endorsement from the mayor of Fort Lee.

"I would have remembered that. And they never said that."

He insists Trump didn't offer him, then rescind the VP gig:

"I think he thought Mike was the better choice."

As for Christie running for office in the future: 'never say never'

"I can't tell you how many times I've been told my political career was over. Here I am."
