CHOP Receives $5 Million Donation From Wawa Foundation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In a press conference Tuesday, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia unveiled a $5 million philanthropic gift from the Wawa foundation.

In recognition of the generous donation, CHOP is renaming its existing volunteer program and will also dedicate a newly constructed, 1,500-square-foot building, to the convenience store. The new development to be named the 'Wawa Volunteer Center', will be in the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric care located on the Raymond G. Perelman Campus in University City.

Dating back over 160 years, Wawa's support of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has been continuous. The company's non-profit, the Wawa Foundation, has raised more than $3 million to support and fund initiatives vital to CHOP's clinical programs.

Future plans for the gift will help increase volunteer programs at CHOP's care network locations around the region. The money will also go toward Wawa coffee and care carts, which is a room service program for parents of hospitalized children.
