Chip Kelly: Offense Needs To Execute, Not 'Grasp At Excuses'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles' offense isn't too simplistic, the players just aren't executing, according to the head coach that is.

"I think we've been varied in our two games, and then through our preseason and everything, we do a different job, changing formations and things like that," Chip Kelly said on Wednesday. "When you're not successful, I think guys are grasping at excuses, to be honest with you. We still need to block and tackle.

"What I'm saying is we need to execute," Kelly continued. "Everybody has predict abilities and tendencies going into every game. I think that's just part of the game plan."

The question stemmed from comments made about wide receiver Josh Huff, who told reporters the Cowboys were calling out the Eagles' plays. But when Kelly asked Huff about his comments, he denied them.

"Yeah, I just asked [Huff] about that," Kelly said. "[Huff] didn't say that to us. I just asked Josh, 'Do you like they had any of our signals?' And he said no."

So somebody is lying, right?

"I don't know," Kelly said. "I just asked him a second ago.

"I think there are certain things that everybody does that's predictable from a tendency standpoint," Kelly said. "When you line up in this formation, 75-percent of the time you do this, 25-percent of the time you do this. There's nothing I think anybody does offensively or defensively 100-percent of the time."
