Chip Kelly Keeps Mark Sanchez Trade Window Open

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Eagles and Jets swapped backup quarterbacks in the offseason, with Michael Vick ending up in New York (Jets) and Mark Sanchez landing in Philly. After two preseason games with the Eagles, Sanchez has completed 18 of 22 passes (81.8%), for 196 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Let the trade rumors begin.

"What happens if somebody calls you and says, 'We're interested in Mark,'" a reporter asked Eagles coach Chip Kelly.

"What are you giving me?" Kelly replied.

However, the rumors are just speculation as of now. According to Kelly, no teams have inquired about the former USC quarterback.

"Mark has played well, but we haven't had anybody call or ask us anything," Kelly said. "That's not something we're talking about because you're just spending time on things that could happen, should happen. I don't know. But I know we're really happy about him."

Every NFL team needs two reliable quarterbacks these days with injuries so prevalent, and Kelly acknowledged the importance of Sanchez to his team. He also says with Sanchez, starter Nick Foles, and second-year QB Matt Barkley, he likes what he has at that position.

"I feel very, very confident in our quarterback situation, probably better than a lot of teams going into it because I think we've got two guys right now that have actually played in games," Kelly said. "Mark's got [62] games under his resume and he's playing at a really high level right now, and obviously Nick's coming off an outstanding season last year. So we feel real confident, but I'm also a big guy that you better have two quarterbacks in this league. I think unless something blows you out of the water, we're real confident with Mark."
