Chimera's Two Goals Lead Capitals Past Flyers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jason Chimera had two goals and an assist to lead the Washington Capitals to a 5-2 victory over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.

Washington's Alex Ovechkin remained one goal shy of becoming the top Russian-born goal scorer in NHL history.

Ovechkin, tied Sergei Fedorov at 483 career goals, appeared to take the lead when his slap shot beat Steve Mason with 38 seconds left in the second period. However, the goal was disallowed after an officials' review determined that Justin Williams was offside on the play.

T.J. Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom and Williams all scored for Washington, which won its third in four games while avoiding losing consecutive games for the first time this season.

Scott Laughton and Claude Giroux had goals for Philadelphia, which has lost four straight games at home and eight of its last nine overall.
