Children's Discovery Garden And Boat Pond At Sister Cities Park Open For The Season

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The first of May brings the return of the Children's Discovery Garden and Boat Pond at Sister Cities Park on Logan Square.

The park is bursting with green, fountains are back on, and the boats are back in the pond, at least for now, says the Center City District's Michelle Shannon.

"It was a boat pond for about one day and one day only when we opened it up and floated the boats; and immediately upon the warm weather it became the neighborhood swimming pool," said Shannon.

Friday's reopening featured offerings of free ice cream and water ice and a performance by the Sister Cities Girlchoir.

Singer songwriters will headline the park's summer events beginning next Tuesday and Shannon expects big crowds.

"Sister Cities Park has become the neighborhood park for this section of the city," said Shannon.
