Child Sex Abuse Guilty Plea, Long Sentence For South Jersey Art Teacher

By David Madden

PINE HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- A former Pine Hill Borough councilman is headed to New Jersey state prison after admitting he took advantage of 17 young boys over five years in an art class he taught at the middle school.

Charles Reilly, 45, was sentenced to 5-15 years for engaging in what Camden County assistant prosecutor Kelly Testa labels "sexually explicit conversations" with the boys, ages 12 to 16.

Reilly's attorney, Robert Agre, expressed his client's remorse in court as part of the plea bargain, but Testa has her doubts.

"He was evaluated for the sex offender treatment facility and he did not show remorse during that evaluation," she said today.

Reilly has been stripped of his teaching certificate and barred from ever holding public office again.

Judge Frederick Schuck noted that he felt it likely that Reilly might commit similar crimes in the future, even though he's expected to get psychological treatment behind bars.
