12-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized In Lawncrest Double Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 12-year-old boy and 21-year-old man are hospitalized after a double shooting in Lawncrest.

Police tell CBS 3 the boy was crossing the street when he was hit by gunfire in the leg.  Police believe he was an innocent victim.

It happened around 9 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Van Kirk Street.

According to police, a 21-year-old man was crossing the street when another man opened fire, firing eight rounds with a semi-automatic weapon, hitting the man in the chest and the 12-year-old in the leg.

The boy was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and is listed in stable condition.

The 21-year-old was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and is listed in critical but stable condition.

"Right now our description of our shooter is a male wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage-type Army fatigue pants. And that shooter was last seen running south through the rear alley in the 5800 block of Rising Sun Avenue," Chief Inspector Scott Small of Philadelphia Police said.

No arrests have been made.

Police are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area.

An investigation is ongoing.
