Boy dies after being hit by school bus in Gloucester County, New Jersey, police say

A child has died after he was hit by a school bus in Greenwich Township, New Jersey, on Friday, officials say. 

The boy was hit around 3:40 p.m. near Bennett Street and Ashton Drive in Gloucester County, according to a press release shared by Greenwich Township police on Facebook.

Neighbors and police gave the child emergency medical care before Gloucester County EMS took over. The child was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he died, police said.

Clonmell United Methodist Church will be open starting at 9 a.m. Saturday for anyone affected by this tragedy to come for prayer, comfort and reflection, the church said on Facebook.

Counselors will be available on Monday in the Greenwich Township School District, police said. 

The Greenwich Township Police Department is investigating the incident.
