Child Falls 30 Feet From Ski Lift In Montgomery County

SCHWENKSVILLE, PA (CBS) – A 5-year-old boy is recovering after falling nearly 30 feet from a ski lift in Montgomery County Saturday night.

It happened around 7 p.m. at Spring Mountain Adventure in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. Resort owner and President Rick Buckman said the boy was on a beginner chair lift and fell 22 feet, 9 inches.

"He was conscious the whole time," Buckman said. "There was a slight cut on his face. Maybe he bumped that on the snow or hit a ski. He was wearing a helmet and there is a possible upper right leg injury."

Buckman said someone else riding the lift called 9-1-1. Ski patrol was notified and Buckman said the boy was flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a precaution. The boy's exact condition was not known.

Buckman said the boy was alone on the lift.

"Parents know their child's ability and with what they're comfortable with," he said. "I do understand that he was with an adult relative on the slope but the adult was not on the chair with him at the time."

He said there was no malfunction on the lift and he is still waiting for a full report from ski patrol.
