Chickens Spill Onto Roadway In Accident Involving 2 Tractor Trailers

SMYRNA, Del. (CBS) -  Soutbound Route 1 in Smyrna, Delaware was completely shutdown for about five hours this morning after a truck dumped a load of chickens on the road.

Delaware State Police say two tractor trailers crashed near the Smyrna exit of Soutbound Route 1 a little before 4 a.m.

Police say neither driver was hurt in the crash, but one of those trucks was carrying a load of live chickens and dozens of them spilled onto the roadway.

Most are just pecking through the grass next to the highway.

As a result, the southbound lanes of Route 1 were shutdown while crews try to round them up.

DelDOT says the road reopened at 10:36 a.m.
