WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (CBS) -- The Chicago team that eliminated the Taney Dragons from the Little League World Series has been stripped of its US championship for recruiting players from outside its boundaries.

Little League officials are now giving the US title to Las Vegas, after an investigation found that the Chicago team used players from the suburbs.  Chicago eliminated Philadelphia's Taney Dragons from the tournament last summer, in Williamsport, Pa.

Mayor Nutter says Little League's latest move provides some level of validation about just how great a team Taney was:

"It's a shame.  I don't know anything about the Chicago situation," Nutter acknowledged.  "I certainly feel bad for the kids and the other people involved.  But Taney is Taney.  And nothing can take away from what they did themselves, and for this city."

Taney lost a 6-5 heartbreaker to Chicago in the double-elimination round.
