2 People Killed After Car Crashes Into Chester Home, Sparks Fire

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- Two people died after a car crashed into a house in Chester and sparked a fire early Friday morning. Police and fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 2 a.m.

Eyewitness News has been told the homeowner made it out alive. Due to the severity of the crash, the family has been asked to identify the victims at another location. The impact of the crash was so severe, parts of the car and engine were left among the debris.

Meanwhile, family members told Eyewitness News that the car in the crash belongs to Jarue Stewart, a father of three. Police have not yet confirmed he was one of the victims of the crash.

"That was my aunt's only child," Janisha Bowman, a family member, said. "She raised me. We grew up in the same house."

"He was an awesome person, he was an awesome father," she added. "He took care of his children, he worked."

Eyewitness News spoke with another person who knew the alleged victim.

"He was a great guy," Rock Stewart, a family friend, said. "I played football with him a few years ago. He was a fun-loving character. Anywhere he went, he had some type of friends. People genuinely loved Jarue, so all I can say is 'Rest in peace' and I hope the family heals the way they need to from this because this is a tough situation."

The video shows images of a car in pieces that went barreling through the home in Delaware County. It still remains unclear what caused the crash.

"How did he get over there?" Stewart said. "What was the circumstances of the situation that would lead to a house crash? Did he lose control? We're still searching for answers as well."

Officials said the two people inside the car were killed after they crashed into the home, which caused a fire.

Police tell Eyewitness News that this remains an ongoing investigation.
