PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A woman is dead after being struck by a car in North Philadelphia overnight.

Philadelphia Police say an unidentified woman believed to be in her 40s or 50s had just left a deli on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near 22nd Street when she was struck by a sedan a little before 1:30 a.m.

Chief Inspector Scott Small tells CBS 3 Eyewitness News that the woman was not crossing at a crosswalk.

The woman was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Small says the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and is not facing charges.

The driver worked for Uber and had just dropped off passengers before the crash.

Uber released the following statement on the accident: 'Our hearts go out to the victim. We are cooperating with authorities to assist in their investigation.'
