Changing Traffic Patterns Could Cause Big Tie-Ups This Weekend On I-95 In Philadelphia

By Marcy Norton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - PennDOT is planning to shift the traffic lanes through the construction zone on northbound I-95, and the changing traffic pattern could cause jams Friday night and  Saturday afternoon.

Crews will be shifting three lanes of northbound I-95 traffic to the center of the highway. While they're resetting concrete barriers and painting new traffic lines, I-95 north will be reduced from three lanes to just one between I-676 and Allegheny Avenue from 11 p.m. Friday through about 2 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, the I-95 north on-ramp from Columbus Boulevard and Richmond Street will be closed and detoured.

PennDOT says drivers should allow more time to travel through the work area, and should stay alert for slowing or stopped traffic.

The new traffic pattern will be in place through fall of 2017, as work continues to widen and reconstruct that area of the highway.
