CES 2016: Your Next Fridge Will Need An Internet Connection

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (CBS) -- Your next refrigerator will need the Internet as much as it needs a power supply.

That's what Samsung is pushing at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

KYW tech editor Ian Bush reports the company is making its boldest move yet into the 'connected home.'

"We're about to change the game," Samsung's John Herrington said.

Lest you think the fridge is just a place to keep food fresh, Herrington has news for you by way of the Family Hub Refrigerator.
"With the 21.5 touchscreen, you can leave notes, post photos, share calendars and artwork, whether you're at home or on the go," he explained during the show.

The display also serves as a digital window, allowing you to drag-and-drop best-by dates on the food inside.

At the supermarket and forgot what you need?

"[It] has built-in cameras that take a photo of the inside of the refrigerator every time you close the door," Herrington said.

Access that on your smartphone or, have the groceries come to you.

Samsung is working with MasterCard to offer online shopping right from an app on the fridge touchscreen.

The Family Hub Refrigerator is expected out this spring for a cool $5000.
