Celebration Of Bacon Comes To Northern Liberties

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A festival is coming to Northern Liberties that might not be for the faint of heart.

It's a chance to pig out at the Piazza at Schmidt's. "Going to be a full day dedicated to bacon -- what I like to call the duct tape of meat," says organizer Evan Weinstein.

The first ever Pennsylvania Bacon Festival comes to Northern Liberties on Saturday May 10th.

Listen to the full interview with Evan Weinstein in this CBS Philly podcast:

Weinstein says it's a 10 hour long block party featuring 30 area restaurants and food trucks serving up their finest bacon-themed concoctions, including, "Full bacon cocktails. We're also going to have a competition component to this where mixologists and chefs will square off to see who the king of bacon is."

There will be treats to eat and vendors selling just about anything: "Bacon scented candles to tactical bacon to bacon Chapstick and everything in between."

Tickets are now available. Weinstein says this is the second stop of an America Loves Bacon tour.
