Cast Of 'Stomp' Offers Interactive Lesson At Kimmel Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- About 30 people were at the Kimmel Center Friday afternoon for an interactive lesson with the cast of "Stomp." The price of admission was only that you bring a canned good, as the special performance was part of the 'Stomp Out Hunger' campaign benefitting Philabundance.
For those of you asking what "Stomp" is, performer John Angeles can describe it best.
"A high energy percussion and dance show. There is no talking in it, but there is music derived from all over the world. The big concept behind the show is 'one man's trash is another man's treasure. So basically, everything we play on there's no conventional instruments."
Angeles says literally nothing is off the table.
"We play on everything from trash cans, to buckets, to pots and pans, to break drums, to kitchen sinks...we play on brooms, everything. Everything you can think of that would not be an instrument, we make it an instrument."
Angeles says "Stomp" tries to take part in some kind of charitable event in every city they visit. At Friday's special lesson at the Kimmel Center, the crowd of mostly kids was doing a good deed by donating the canned goods while also having a good time.
A local dance crew "Party Rockers" also got a chance to perform with the cast after the lesson.
"Stomp" runs at the Merriam Theater December 26th through December 30th.
