'Carmina Burana' And A Pa. Ballet Premiere

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Ballet company presents "Carmina Burana" and a company premiere, Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, from March 6th through the 15th at the Academy of Music.

"We're going back to our roots," says Artistic Director Roy Kaiser, who adds that "Carmina Burana" has been in the company's repertoire for decades.
"It was such an iconic piece for the company for so many years. It's a ballet that, during that time, was very much in the bones of the company," Kaiser explains.
And it's a good fit, he says, for their 50th Anniversary season. It shares the bill with Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, choreographed by another ballet icon, George Balanchine.
"They collaborated on many, many works. Most of those works are still with us today. Balanchine was a brilliant choreographer who was also a very talented musician, so he really understood music," says Kaiser.
